Let me say it again:
Merry
CHRISTmas
Eve!!!
We've had a pretty fun last couple of days... let me tell you about 'em...
First of all, as a reminder I didn't go to work Monday because of the beautiful snow, so on Tuesday, I knew I had to make an appearance at work before the shipyard closure. So my car had to be uncovered from the snow. Here's my poor car, and what looks like a couple little twigs on the top and behind it....
But after Jeromy further investigated, he found out what really happened...
Look how big that branch is!! But it didn't do any damage thank goodness!!
Here's my sweetie unburying (sp?)my car... which would have stayed buried if it weren't for him, I don't do that kind of manual labor...
And the here's Jeromy making the first attempt of backing up the car in a foot of snow....
I heard Jade and Kent laughing by the computer, and you won't believe what these kids do for entertainment, I guess I should be thankful they are so easily entertained, and I am!!!
Then before going to work, we thought we'd make an emergency cookie run to my mom's house. We needed cookies people!!! And my mom hooked us up!! Thanks mom, here's the posse' getting ready to go... don't ask me about the hat...
Then Jeromy and the kids dropped me off at work. But that's ok, because it was my last work day of 2008!! And I have the next 12 days off... it's almost too hard to believe!!!
Then we have today!! We woke up to more snow!! Here's a reminder where we were a couple days ago... a mere 2 inches...
And then where we are today... the 13 inch marker is covered up!! I can't believe it!!
Today we were volunteering at the Severe Weather Shelter at the Fairgrounds. This was a great experience for the whole family! There are hundreds of homeless people in our county alone, and many more people who can't afford the heat during this cold snap. So the Department of Emergency Management for our area has sponsored this severe weather shelter for people in need. And they need volunteers to run it around the clock while the weather is bad.
So that's were we come in. The kids had such great attitudes about this. The shelter said volunteers had to be 14 and older which worked out perfect for my 14 and 16 year old. And what a better way to celebrate Jesus' birth by doing what he calls us to do... help the poor and those in need. We brought extra warm clothes to donate, and headed off... here's Jade and I looking super cute... in our red and green scarfs ( or is it scarves?? Help me out here with my spelling mom!!)
I didn't want to take pictures inside the shelter for obvious reasons, but I did get a cute one of Jade and Kent working on a puzzle. Some of the people came and worked on the puzzle with us.
I was a little nervous at first cause we took over for a lady that was running it by herself, and when she left, it was just us four. The shelter was running low on volunteers during these 2 days. So we are also volunteering tomorrow from 7AM till noon. And the kids are actually excited about it. And to tell you the truth, so am I. It feels good to help people.
So after our shift, we went to Red Robin, yes... we went to Red Robin on Christmas Eve kinda lame, but convenient. And we saw the biggest pile of dirty snow... thought you might want to see it... maybe not...
Then we went to my mom's again to rescue some cinnamon rolls she was holding hostage... just kidding mom, thanks AGAIN!!! YUMMY!!!
Now we are home and tired and relaxing!!! Good night!

Hey Katie...
I can't believe your "snow gauge" disappeared...now I wish the snow would disappear...maybe just off the roads.
I think it's wonderful what you and your family are doing this Christmas...it's definitely the true meaning of the season.
Wish we could have seen your happy faces at Laura's...but, better safe than sorry.
Merry Christmas!!
Love, Auntie Mary
